It's just an idea. However the emerald theme already exists: [link]
It's how I think a desktop without icons would look like, though some icons would still be allowed (like the close icon on the tasks). The desktop would be entirely controled with keystrokes and mousegestures, so no need for any shortcuts. There would still be a menu though - by (key) right/middle-clicking anywhere.
There are also a concept of an application that I call PicBrowse/PicView. A simple customizable image browsing app.
Transparency never works without blur. (Please learn that interface programmers.) So a terminal with a blurry transparent bg would be nice to have.
The concept of the task area is not really necissary. I added it there for comfortability I guess. I also think there should be a clock always showing no matter what apps you have open. To switch between apps you would either use the task area or a keystroke/mousegesture. Thumbnails of the application would be displayed when hovered. Task area could be hidden when not hovered or maybe set to always be displayed.
I haven't really though much about how it would look like when there are more tasks than the width of it. I guess the scrollwheel would be handy then, or that it only displays the most used/recent open apps.
Oh well, no such panel exists yet. Nor does any of the apps. I can just keep dreaming.
hey ! another one who totally like actual desktop and wish to create something new ! It's my personal project of the year as a student in design arts ^^
Microsoft, Apple or Linux, you've got work to do ! ^^ something better than BumpTop ^^
I totally agree ! Transparency without blur should not even be imagined !
It really is a good idea to put close buttons on the task manager, I would make them thiner though. The task bar also takes too much place for me.
You only say something about a desktop menu like the ones we find in Xfce, and the *box window managers... But, what about the applications menu ? Right click on the window ? And a software really needs an alternative to Keyboard... I have no idea how the toolbar could be erased.
