Oh, shiny....

Just trying out KDE4, figuring out how to customize it and whatever. Still haven't found how to install dekorator themes though. O_o

Also learning every possible customization option at the moment so I one day may possibly create my own themes for KDE. I just hate working with SVG graphics though, but there seems to be ways to create things with raster-graphics. :P

I'm pretty impressed for KDE. I always thought it was all tacky looking rounded glass that I liked in 2001.

Yeah, that's why I stopes using KDE, it's a pain in the butt to customize (mostly because I don't have the time nor the patience to fiddle with it).
If I can't customize my OS to my needs, I don't see a reason to have it. :blackrose:

A lot of pixmap/murrine themes work well with the gtk+ engine, see newwave gtk as an example. Plasma themeing though has to be an svg (however you can ember images into an svg as easily as going : inkscape>extensions>images>embed images.

Also of something might interest you is the plasmarename plugin for inkscape, which makes naming all the object ids in inkscape far less tedious. ([link])

Heh, I see you managed to get the panel close to how you want it! Yes, skinning KDE, mainly plasma themes, is a BASTARD. You can use raster editors like GIMP or Photoshop to create your plasma theme, then import the elements into inkscape for the necessary object ID labelling and other hinters needed. It's a pain in the arse.

yeah, he is on kde now :)
waiting eagerly for your first theme here hehe

deKorator:
e.g. my theme
go to the path tab ind dekorator settings and set the paths to buttons, deco and masks folders and enable use mask, that´s all

i suggest the newest deKorator from kde-look, cause it can handle shadows, the one from the ubuntu repos can´t

Indeed, themes management in KDE4 happen to be quite messy.
I noticed that when using some third-party engines, you even have to select it, as if it was a theme, and then make the engine use the real theme. I still don't really know where to put some of these files.
Pretty odd when you are used to simply apply a gtk2 theme, located in ~/.themes
Really a bad point, because they seem to provide many possibilities, even more than gtk theming...
